Lake Arthur A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mr. Wylie Ross Parker, 85 on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Rev. Clyde Thomas officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Lake Arthur. Visitation will be held Friday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. Saturday visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until time of services. Mr. Parker died at the Heart Hospital of Lafayette in Lafayette, Louisiana Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 12:20 a.m. Mr. Parker was born, October 10, 1924 in Fort Thomas, Arizona, to Gordon Powell Parker and Addie B. Murray. He graduated from Reagan High School in Houston, Texas, and served his country as a member of the Army in World War II in the European Theatre. Mr. Parker was the founder and owner of Parkers for 29 years. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and served as a Eucharistic minister. Mr. Parker was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church where he also served on the finance committee. He was a member of the Goretti School Board, and held membership in Jennings Pacyderm Club, Jennings Golf Club, Bon Ton Rouler Dance Club, and Jennings Chamber of Commerce. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a good friend to many. Mr. Parker was famous for some of the pranks he enjoyed playing on people. He has been called the best Santa Claus in the world . One of his favorite pastimes was playing cards with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Isabel Schlesinger Parker, one daughter Mary Kathryn Parker of Broussard, five sons, Robert Ross Parker and wife Priscilla of Lake Arthur, James Powell Parker and wife Shirley of Broussard, William David Parker and wife Mary Frances of Shreveport, Clyde Timothy Parker and wife Elizabeth of Lake Arthur and Richard Keith Parker and wife Carolyn of Roanoke, and one sister, Dorothy Ruth Young of Pleasanton, Texas. Participants for Mr. Parkers service will be his granddaughters. Readers will be Genevieve Noelle Parker Carney and Kelly Elizabeth Parker. Gift bearers will be Laurie Christine Parker Glotta, and Anne Marie Parker McCrory. The altar server will be Anndrea Marie Crouch. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Robert Ross Parker, Jr., Jeffrey Powell Parker, David William Parker, Joseph Ross Parker, Matthew Ross Crouch, and Brian Keith Parker. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and his great grandchildren: Stephen Michael Parker, Corey Timothy Parker, John Patrick Parker, Kade Ross Parker, Catherine Frances Parker, Naomi Marie Parker, Elise Christine Glotta, Jacqueline Elaine Glotta and Patrick Michael Carney. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Jeff Davis Home Health for their care, and to Esther LeMaire and Yvonne Meyer, his home caregivers.
