JENNINGS William Frederick Billy Tietje of Jennings died on October 25, 2010 at the Jennings American Legion Hospital. A retired rice farmer near Roanoke, he was 92 years old. He was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Jennings Rotary Club. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II earning five battle stars in the European Theater. Billy graduated from Roanoke High School and attended LSU until he was drafted during his senior year. Following WWII he began farming rice on his familys farm and was a charter member of the Roanoke Rice Co-op. Billy will be remembered as a kind and loving father who spent much of his time in retirement visiting relatives, the sick and shut-ins. He loved reading history and even though he suffered from limited vision for many years, continued to read with the aid of a magnifying reader. His greetings and bear hugs will be missed by many. He is survived by John Braden and wife Linda of Phoenixville, PA; Margaret Braden Gallaugher of Charlotte, NC; and Burt Tietje and wife Mary of Jennings; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his wife of 48 years Doris Tramel Tietje; parents, William Frederick and Tracie Burtner Tietje; siblings Herbert Tietje, Cyrus Tietje, Grace Tietje Bowers and Virginia Tietje Morrill. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at the church at noon and run until the time of services. The service will be led by Rev. Philip Stagg of Bogalusa. Honor attendants will be Will Tietje, Franklin Gallaugher, Matthew Carlisle, Charlie Williams, Dan Morrish, Brian Bowman, Kirk Dommert, Stephen Broussard, Russell Fontenot and Ian Williams. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Heart of Hospice of Lake Charles. Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings is in charge of arrangements.
