JENNINGS 

Funeral services for Mr. Walter J. Bertrand, 93, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2016 in the Miguez Funeral Home with Deacon Mike Tramel officiating.

Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery near Elton.

Funeral home visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. Friday until time of service.

Mr. Bertrand died at 10:50 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home.

Mr. Bertrand was a lifelong resident of Roanoke and served in the U.S Army during World War II. He served with the Medical Corps in the United States and on troop transport ship in the Pacific. He performed various duties to assist medical officers in caring for the sick and wounded men. He also assisted in surgical operations. He was an enlisted man in charge of ship infirmary and supervised five enlisted men. He was self-employed for 50 plus years as a refrigerator/AC repairman. He was past president of waterworks district #1. The family would like to thank the VA for their wonderful care.

Survivors include one son, Walter J. Bertrand II and wife, Kaye of Roanoke.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Bernard and Maude Dennay Bertrand; his wife, Thelma “Timmie” Bertrand; four sisters, Ruth Green, Edith Cole Letha Anderson, Hazel McMillin; and two brothers, Frank and LaFon Bertrand.
