JENNINGS The family of Vernis Hinchee announces her passing on Monday, November 25, 2013, at the age of 93. It is with great sadness, because we will miss her greatly and yet with great joy, as she goes to be with our Lord. She was born in Egan, Louisiana on December 14, 1919. In a family of nine children she lived her early life on a rice farm. She frequently shared memories with her family and we treasure her stories about riding the covered wagon to school and working alongside her mother as they cooked for the family, big gatherings of relatives or the rice thrashing crews during harvest time. In 1940, she married Carl Hinchee of Welsh and they soon moved to the Jennings area where she lived until 2003. For the last ten years she lived near her son in Florida but she never lost her identity as a Louisiana Cajun and she desired to be buried back home in Jennings. Family meant everything to Vernis and she is survived by her daughter, Linda Hallbauer (Allen) of Belton, Texas, her son Lowell Hinchee (Janet) of Mount Dora, Florida, granddaughter Beth Barnette (Kelly) of Kingsport, Tennessee, grandson David Hinchee of Mount Dora, Florida, grandson John Hinchee of Tamarac, Florida, and great-granddaughter Anneliese of Kingsport, Tennessee. She is also survived by her sisters, Elia Milligan, Seadrift, Texas, Fern Robertson, New Orleans, Florence Wood, Cookeville, Tennessee, and brother Calvin Sensat (Mary Anne), Egan, Louisiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2013 in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church with Rev. Charles McMillin officiating. Funeral home visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday November 29, 2013 with a rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
