Mr. Verle Munkres, 90, of Jennings passed away at 6:55 p.m., Thursday, May 29, 2019 in the Jennings American Legion Hospital.
Mr. Munkres was born August 27, 1928 in Ames, Oklahoma to Ova and Lula Munkres. He grew up on their family farm with his siblings Lovell, Lila Jean, and Otis.
After his graduation from Ames High School in 1946 he served a four-year tour in the U.S. Army during the Korean era from 1951 to 1954 being stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Mr. Munkres moved to Jennings in 1957 with his wife, Maxine Crawford Munkres, to pursue a career in the Louisiana Petroleum Industry. During his career he was employed with Holston Well Service, CRC Holston, Inc., CRC Well Service, Inc., and Pool Holston, Inc. He was professionally trained through his employment with Crutcher Resources in the areas of finance, accounting, and safety. He held several different supervisory and management positions over the years in the oil field industry.
He was a member of American Legion Post #0179 since 1957 when he moved to Louisiana. He was a life- long proud Supporter of the NRA and Republican Party.
He will truly be missed by all who knew this man of character, compassion, and integrity. His contagious smile and laughter will always be remembered along with his witty sense of humor.
He is survived by his daughter, Verla Young (Bryan) of Jennings, one stepdaughter, Christi Crowder, and one stepson, Stan Carrier, both of Oklahoma City, OK., one brother, Otis Munkres (Sheri) of Ames, OK, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ova L. Munkres and Lula G. Root Munkres; one brother Lovell Munkres, one Sister Lila Jean Cramer, one daughter JoEtta Munkres, and his wife Janice Bonham Munkres.
A deeply heartfelt thank you goes out to Ms. Sheila Kidder, caregiver, Lamm Family Care, Jennings American Lerion Hospital ICU Staff, and all who expressed words of comfort during this difficult time.
Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 1PM and continue until time of service. Mr. Munkres’ final resting place will be in his birthplace of Ames, OK as per his wishes.
