Thelma V. Mcburney

JENNINGS Thelma Stafford McBurney, passed away on June 29, 2010 in The Woodlands, Texas. She was born in Evangeline, LA on March 25, 1924 to parents Fred Stafford and Carrie Aycock Stafford. She was the eldest of six children. After graduating from Iota High School in 1941, she married R.C. Pierce and had one son, R.C. Pierce, Jr., born in 1942. In 1970, she married W.J. McBurney and moved to Jennings where she lived until 2006 when she moved to The Woodlands to be nearer family. Thelma is survived by her son, R.C. Pierce, Jr. and wife Linda of Montgomery, TX; granddaughter Karen Kay Sugarbaker and husband Scott of The Woodlands; grandson Robert Craig Pierce of Baton Rouge; great grandsons, Garret and Evan Sugarbaker of The Woodlands; sister Ozell Cormier of Sulphur; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings, with Rev. Randall Walton officiating. Internment will follow at The Bluff Cemetery in Evangeline. Visitation will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday until the beginning of the service.
