Lake Arthur – Funeral services to honor the life of Sully Arnes “Mickey” Onellion Jr., 72, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Arthur. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 1:30 P/M. until 9:00 P.M. on Sunday February 22, 2015 .and 8:00 A.M. until the time of service on Monday. Mr. Onellion will be laid to rest in St Marcellus Catholic Cemetery (Rynella) on Avery Island Road in New Iberia with military honors. Pastor Ernest Breaux will officiate. A native of Baton Rouge, Sully lived in New Iberia for his first 22 years. He worked for Halliburton, Texaco and retired from ExxonMobil as an electrician with 25 years of service. He enjoyed playing bass guitar and was a member of the Ravens band back in the 60’s and later became the manager of the band “Mickey and the Mouses.” In 1963, he joined the Air Force in 1963 and served his country as a radar and computer technician and received an honorable discharge along with being a Korean War Veteran. On the personal side, his interests included political analysis while he enjoyed listening to French music and old time rock’n’roll. He was also an avid lover of all animals, especially cats. His hobbies involved computer technology and videography throughout his life and into his retirement years. His videographic portfolio consisted of many local events, school functions, and weddings as he captured many memories for his family, friends and community. Through the years, he enjoyed barbecues at home with family and friends. He survivors include his wife of 50 years, Brenda Couvillier Onellion; 2 sons, John Arnes (Sushanna) Onellion and Jason Wayne Michael (Latesha) Onellion, both of Lake Arthur; one daughter, Tammy Lynne (Shatner) Simon of Gonzales; two brothers, Timothy J. and Patrick S. (Debbie) Onellion, both of New Iberia; one sister, Mary Margaret Seale of New Iberia; and seven grandchildren, Darren and Davis Yates, Samantha, John Evan, Ethan, Aleck and Brock Onellion, all of Lake Arthur. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Margaret Carstens Onellion and Sully Arnes Onellion Sr; four brothers, Phillip C., Franklin D. (Dubby), Charles T. and Larry R. Onellion; and one adopted sister, Paula Myrl Hicks. Serving as pallbearers will be his two sons, John and Jason Onellion; two brothers, Patrick and Timothy Onellion; and two grandsons, Darren and Davis Yates. Honorary pallbearers will be his son-in-law, Shatner Simon; and his dear friends, Edward Thompson, and Tom McCaig. Miguez Funeral Home of Lake Arthur is in charge of arrangements. His family also takes this occasion to thank their many friends and family for the kindness, which has been given during this time to celebrate his life. The family also would like to thank the entire staff at Heart of Hospice for their compassionate care.
