Samuel Lawrence Derouen

October 10, 1937 — April 27, 2009

Sammy Poppa Derouen, 71, left this world and entered the kingdom of heaven while in Baytown, Texas at the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital, His suffering is now over and his Eternal life with God begins. A memorial service will be held in honor and memory of Sammy Poppa Derouen at the Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur. Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, May 2, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with a rosary led by Marion Simar at 12:00, services will follow with Rev. Clyde Thomas officiating. Visitation and services will be short, this is the wishes of Poppa . Sammy was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, spending time with friends and loved ones. Sammy really enjoyed Halloween where he would help cook and serve hotdogs for the children trick or treating, he will be missed by all. Sammys journey through life lead him in many directions. He served in the Army from May 29, 1956 until August 26, 1958. Stationed at Ft. Polk he trained as a guided missile crewman and earned the Marksmanship Medal. Sammy enjoyed his time as a carpenter working for Dolands Lumber Yard in Lake Arthur. He served as a police officer for the town of Lake Arthur, as well as an agent for the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries. He was a tug boat captain for Lee Nunez of Grand Chenier and in his final years he enjoyed doing custodial work for Mr. Bernard Marcantel. Before leaving this world Sammy donated his body to science research in the hopes that they may be able to learn from his death and illnesses and prevent the pain of sufferings of others. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette LaPoint Derouen of Lake Arthur, his children, Pamela Derouen Conner and Mark Conner of Lake Arthur, Theresa Derouen Abshire and Bryon Abshire of Lake Arthur, Lynette Marie Derouen and Ronni Vail of Baytown, TX. His grandchildren, Marshall and wife Savannah Richard of Baytown, TX, Brooke Nichole Richard of Baytown, TX, Bradley Scott Giles, Aaron Scott Giles, Dwayne Steven Conner of Lake Arthur, Seth Vail of Devers, TX. Great-grandchildren include Melanie Paige Richard of Baytown, TX, Jade Cole Deshotel of Lake Arthur; one sister, Betty OConner of Houston, TX; one brother, A.J. Constantine of Forked Island, LA; step-daughters, Janice Bouley Broussard, Marion Bouley Hargrave of Jennings; step-grandchildren, Courtlan Broussard, Brett LaPoint, Alexis LaPoint of Jennings, Christian Hargrave, Noha Bouley, Autumn Bouley of Roanoke, as well as many nieces and nephews. Sammy was preceded in death by his mother and father, Amanda and Raymond Derouen, his son Marshall Lane Derouen, step son, Andrew Paul Bouley, four sisters, Sally Derouen Authement, Wanda Derouen Phenice, Doris Constantine, Tina Louis Derouen, brother in law, Claude Authement; and one brother, Alfred Paul Constantine. Sammy was loved and will be deeply missed by his many family members and friends that are left with only his memories until we can all join him in the kingdom of heaven with God.
