Samuel Eugene Henson

Memorial services for Samuel (Sam the Bee Man) E. Henson will be held Tuesday, November 20, at 11:00 AM at the Lake Arthur United Methodist Church. Mr. Henson passed away on Monday, October 1, at 1:35 PM. He was born May 7, 1921 in Oilton, OK, the oldest of six children. The family moved to Montana and then Idaho, settling in Homedale, ID. He graduated from Homedale High School in 1940. He married his childhood sweetheart, Evelyn Adams on April 23, 1942. He was drafted into the US Army in 1944 and served on the Philippine Islands during WWII. He belonged to the Lake Arthur United Methodist Church. He gave Children Sermons, belonged to Methodist Men, and for years served as the ex-officio church maintenance man. After nearly a century of living, he was a true patriarch to the family ” both immediate and extended. His wisdom, integrity, humor, intelligence, and love guided all those around him. He had a curiosity about and zest of life that was contagious. His laughter and capacity to show and give love are legacies that will be treasured. He was preceded in death by: wife and soul mate of 64 years, Evelyn A. Henson; his parents, Sam and Gussie Henson; a sister, Jane H. Simpson; two brothers, Orr Henson and F.D. Poke Henson; his beloved nephews, James L. Day and Virgil D. Henson; and Oscar, his companion and pet. Left behind are: Two daughters, Jeanette (Mike) Stewart of Lake Arthur, La., Peggy (David) Ramirez, of El Centro, CA; one son, Sam A. Henson of Iowa, La.; one sister, Frankie Schierman, of Ephrata, WA; one brother, Jay Henson, of Hood River, OR; one sister-in-law, Wasalea Henson, of Homedale, ID; seven grandchildren, Ganer Stewart of Burbank, CA,; Marianne (Bart) Rodriguez of Welsh, LA; Alex (Megan) Stewart of Lake Arthur, La., Kendall (Aaron) John of Ft. Defiance, AZ; Cody (Roger Ollson) Ramirez of Mulkiteo, WA; Joseph Ramirez of Tucson, AZ; and Desideria Ramirez of Pacific Grove, CA; thirteen great grand children, Alonzo, Colt, Sabrina, and Ace John; Daniel, Seth, Joseph, Madelyn, and Evelyn Rodriguez; Sebastian and Quentin Stewart; Caleb and Juliet Baronet. special nephews, Albert (Joy) Day of Bellingham, WA and Vaughn (Janeen) Downing of Ephrata, WA; dear nieces, Elaine (Dave) Myers, Diana Myers, and Jerry Lynn (Gary) Twedt of Boise and Nampa, ID; his best friend of 70 years, John (Isabel) Moore of Wilson Creek, WA; and dear friends, Wilson and Jeanie Kingery of Iowa, LA and Shirley Trahan of Lake Arthur, LA. The family wishes to thank the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home for their loving care of their beloved Mr. Sam. Many thanks also, to the Jennings American Legion Hospital for their compassion and excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lake Arthur United Methodist Church or the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home.
