Ruth Kelley

Ruth A. Kelley, 87 entered in Heaven on Thursday, November 28, 2012 from the comfort of her home in Evangeline. Ruth was born to the late Frank and Margaret Jumche Kelley on April 19, 1925 in Hammond, Indiana, the youngest of six children. Ruth attended school in Hammond, Indiana and attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. The Lord called her into Missionary work in 1944 and went to the mountains of Kentucky where she worked in a Christian Orphanage for four years. After attending Child Evangelism Fellowship Institute, Ruth began teaching childrens Bible classes and also served as Director of CEF for nineteen years in Evansville, Indiana. August 1967 was the start of her serving with fellow missionary Judy McFarlain in Uruguay, South America. After seven years in Uruguay they returned to the United States and worked together in various states mainly with the Native Americans. Ruths ministry was teaching the Bible to children, teens and adults. She trained teachers, was a leader in Vacation Bible Schools and retreats and conducted youth camps in Louisiana and Texas. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Jennings with Dr. Chuck Stevenson, Pastor of Hope Baptist Church in Alexandria (Ruths home church) and Brother Brian Wells will officiate. Funeral home visitation will be today, Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday visitation will be at the First Baptist Church from 9 am until the time of service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Ruth and Judy wishes to express sincere gratitude to Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care of Jennings.
