Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Anderson Brown, 90, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Raymond United Methodist Church with Rev. Laura Nusbaum officiating.
Burial will be in the Raymond Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings.
Funeral home visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday; and Saturday at the church starting at 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Mrs. Brown died at 11:05 a.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2016 in the Camelot Brookside Nursing Home in Jennings.
Mrs. Brown was born in Lake Charles, raised in Sulphur, and a resident of the Hathaway area over 70 years. She grew up in the Sulphur mines, attended Sulphur Elementary and graduated in the 1943 class at Sulphur High School. In 1946, she graduated from S.L.I. Southwestern Louisiana Institute (currently U.L.L.- University of Louisiana Lafayette) and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree.
She taught Home Economics over 20 years in Jeff Davis Parish. She is a current member of the Jeff Davis Parish Area Retired Teachers Association.
She is a former member of the Jennings American Legion Hospital Auxiliary and the local Quilters’ Guild. She volunteered at several community events and activities.
She is a member of the Raymond United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and former teacher of the Adult Sunday School Class. She and her late husband, Harold, were Co-Founders of the United Methodist Campers.
Mrs. Brown embraced life with optimism, kindness, grace, and love. She enjoyed traveling, camping, baking, quilting, and volunteering. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her daily devotion time.
Survivors include four sons, Craig and Diane Brown of Memphis, TN, Richard and Becky Brown of Dayton, TX, Kent and Jackie Brown of Hathaway and Steven and Ginger Brown of Hathaway; eight grandchildren: Emily B. Taylor and husband Chris, Michael Brown, Heather B. Ellis, Heath Brown and wife Tami, Christopher Brown and wife Adrienne, Melissa B. Dunkel and husband Brian, Eric Brown and wife Blaire and Rachel Brown; and seven great-grandchildren: Caroline Taylor, Harold Taylor, Dylan Ellis, Lawson Brown, Sam Dunkel, Kate Dunkel, Macy Brown, and two expected in four and five months.
She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Myrtle Anderson, her loving husband of 59 years, Harold Brown, and one brother, Robert Anderson.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons Michael, Heath, Eric, Christopher Brown, and two nephews Duncan and Spencer Anderson.
Honorary pallbearer will be Dylan Ellis.
