Russell Comeaux age 79, of Jennings, Louisiana died April 9, 2014 at his home of complications of aging.

Russell was born July 16, 1934 in Welsh, Louisiana to Damond and Ella Comeaux. Siblings included brothers Curtis, Edias, Eddie, Edward and Hilliard, along with his sister Lillian. He attended elementary school in Welsh and high school in Jennings, Louisiana, where he played football and basketball.

He attended Minnesota Bible College for one year and returned to Jennings to work.

He married the love of his life, Yvonne (Doll) Broussard, October 1, 1954. He coached peewee football and mens basketball in Jennings for a number of years. In 1964 he moved his family to Joplin, Missouri to attend Ozark Bible College. He graduated in 1968. While attending college and a few years after graduation he coached the college mens basketball team and assisted Don Dewelt in teaching Old Testament history classes. A highlight in his coaching career was when his college team led the nation in points averaged per game.

In 1970 he left Ozark to become youth minister at Osage Hills Christian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There he developed the youth program, trained youth sponsors and wrote Sunday school curriculum for the entire program. Significant attendance growth was witnessed during this time. He also attended the University of Tulsa to begin a masters degree.

In 1972 he then moved to Del City, Oklahoma to teach and coach at Midwest Christian College in Oklahoma City, serving as Athletic Director and professor. He served there for five years. During this time he served as an elder at Draper Park Christian Church. He and Doll were very active in church leadership. During these years he earned a masters degree in education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1975.

He then moved in 1977 to Rochester, Minnesota to become Athletic Director and professor. In 1980 he left Minnesota to return to Moore, Oklahoma to teach in public elementary school and train to become a school principal. He served as assistant principal for several years until his retirement in 1996. During this time in Moore he also served as the executive director of the National Bible College Athletic Association, an organization that hosted national tournaments in womens volleyball and men and womens basketball for Bible colleges across the nation. After retiring he moved back to Jennings to be close to family. During retirement for seven years Russell served as manager of Pine Haven Christian Assembly in Park Rapids, MN. This was one of the joys of his life to help young people have a nice camp experience, to learn about Christ and grow in their faith. He was loved and appreciated for his smile and his encouraging and friendly ways. Russell was a competitive person and enjoyed sports, especially golf, in his later years. He was also a people person and cherished the time he could visit and interact with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne; Ella Comeaux, Mother; Damond Comeaux, Father; Lillian Delome, Sister; Edias Comeaux, Brother; Curtis Comeaux, Brother; Hilliard Comeaux, Brother; Trenton White, Grand Child.

He is survived by his brothers Eddie (Viola), and Edward (Lena) Comeaux, sisters-in-law Shirley Comeaux (Hilliard), and Margorie Comeaux (Edias) as well as by his five adult children: Dr. Russell Mark (Cathy), Gus Damon, Jeri Evonne Meche (Lonnie), Ruth Ann Streets, and Michael Larry. Additionally, he leaves behind grandchildren: Joshua Comeaux, Chelcie Comeaux, Cara Comeaux, Jeffrey White, Nathan White, Brandon White, Lucas Streets, Hayden Comeaux, Ashley Comeaux and Raelinn Pena. Great grandchildren: Kiara White, Kadience Comeaux, Brekin Sellers, Tracyn Sellers, Grayden Comeaux, Payton Crochet, and Landon Crochet; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday, April 13, 2014. Monday, April 14, 2014, visitation will be 8:00 am at the First Church of Christ, 806 May St. in Jennings, Louisiana, the memorial service at 1:00 pm with Mike Nuthman officiating.
