Roy Joseph Lapoint

Lake Arthur Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 10:00 am with a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Arthur, LA., the Reverend Clyde Thomas officiating for Roy Joseph LaPoint, 72, who passed away peacefully, Friday, December 5, 2008 at his residence. Entombment will take place in the St. Anthony Cemetery Mausoleum in Lake Arthur. A rosary will be recited on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 7:00 pm at Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur, LA. Mr. LaPoint was a 1955 graduate of Lake Arthur High School. He went on to graduate from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (U of L) with a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1958. He began his teaching career as a History teacher which was his passion. He later received his Masters Degree and Thirty Plus hours in Supervision and Administration from McNeese State University. He completed his educational tenure as the principal of Lake Arthur Elementary. Roy, not only touched so many lives with his educational expertise, but was a wonderful role model as an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and Church Choir. He was a Boy Scout Troop leader and baseball and football coach. He helped direct musicals such as The King and I, Carousel, Oklahoma, South Pacific, and The Sound of Music at Jennings High School. Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Mildred Benoit LaPoint, one daughter Myra LaPoint Moreau and her husband Brett of Lafayette, LA. Additional survivors include his mother, Lula Simon LaPoint, one brother, LeRoy LaPoint and his wife Joetta, his daughter-in-law, Cynthia LaPoint Monceaux and a son-in-law, Troy H. Gott, He also leaves one great grandchild, Adelyn Grace Hoffpauir and six grandchildren, Ashley LaPoint Hoffpauir, Adam Christopher LaPoint, Shelly Moreau, Logan Moreau, Victoria Gott and Catherine Gott. He was preceded in death by his father, Amos Jospeh LaPoint, his brother, Douglas LaPoint and his sister Adeline LaPoint Bernard. He was also preceded in death by his two children Mark Christopher LaPoint and Angela Ruth LaPoint Gott. Pallbearers will be Brett Moreau, LeRoy LaPoint, Sidney Cormier, Paul Delacroix, Carl Langley and Philip Byler. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam LaPoint, Logan Moreau, Cleveland Hoffpauir, all his former faculty members and his many scholastic, drama and athletic students. The family requests visiting hours be observed from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm on Monday, December 8, 2008 and on Tuesday from 8:00 am until the time of service. WELCOME HOME
