Roberta Jean Doucet

June 26, 1931 — October 25, 2017

Doucet,Roberta “Jean” It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Roberta Jean Jester Doucet, fondly known to friends and family as “Jean”, announces that she passed away peacefully in her home on October 25th 2017, at the age of 86 years.

A native of Hathaway, Jean attended Texas Women’s University and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. She later returned and completed her Master’s Degree plus 30 and then later started her Doctorate. She spent one year in England teaching school for the US Air Force JENNINGS

and returned to Hathaway where she taught school in Jeff Davis Parrish for over 30 years. She then became the reading resource teacher for the Parish and later the Elementary Supervisor. She earned the Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching.

Jean served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the Jeff Davis Parish Fair Board, Jeff Davis Retired Teachers, and Delta Kappa Gamma, and traveled to Australia for a special reading conference. She was a Grand Marshall for Dedication to the Jeff Davis Parish Fair Board. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. In every circumstance Jean’s gift of making friends was extraordinary. Her irresistible charm and grace, coupled with her heart of gold and unconditional love, fostered a distinction of Jean as a loving stronghold of loving support. She was a student of culture, travel, and education; an avid reader and a cheerleader to not just her grandchildren, but to anyone who needed it. Her favorite thing was to run in to former students to let them know how proud of them she was.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Elmer Louis Doucet, daughter Roberta Doucet Stephens of Nashville,TN, three grandchildren Megan Stephens Gilbert (Adam) of Nashville,TN, Cade Stephens (Patty) of Orlando,FL,and Callie Stephens Wiegmann (Kevin) of Jacksonville,FL, and two great-grandchildren Sadie Grace Gilbert and Addison Wiegmann. As well as many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Anna and Harry Jester, her sister Lela Jester Tiede, and her brother Richard Jester.

A funeral is scheduled for October 28, 2017 at 2:00pm at Elton United Methodist Church. Reverend Daniel Husak will officiate the ceremony. Carrying her to her final resting place at Raymond Cemetery will be pallbearers Billy Compton, Tommy Compton, Mark Jester, John Mark Hoffman, Melvin Leblanc, and Donald Lee Hine. Honorary pallbearers are Cade Stephens and Adam Gilbert. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jean’s life. Visitation will be held on Friday at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings on October 27,2017 at 10:00am-9:00pm and also on October 28,2017 from 8:00am-9:00am. Further visitation will be held prior to the service at Elton United Methodist Church from 10:00am until service.

Jean was very passionate about “flowers before the funeral” and Elmer definitely delivered throughout their 60 years, so in lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in her name to Hathaway High School Library or Delta Kappa Gamma (local chapter).

The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice of Lake Charles for their outstanding care and compassion for Jean in her final days.
