Robert "Rug" Gary

The family would like to announce the passing of Robert "Rug" Lee Gary, 85, of Jennings. Rug, born on September 9, 1939, in Jennings, Louisiana, left this world peacefully on March 27, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Rug spent many years working in the electrical industry with Gulf States Utilities and Entergy, contributing to the community he loved so much. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2012, and he served on the Jeff Davis Parish Policy Jury for 12 years.

He was known for his love of cooking, making sausage, traveling, camping, hunting and fishing. But perhaps his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.

He was a devoted husband to his wife of 64 years, Sonja Kotzel Gary, a caring father to his sons, Michael (Monica) Gary and Douglas Gary, and a loving daughter, Lisa (Phil) Richard. He cherished every moment he had with his grandchildren: Cynthia (Eric) Sonnier, Jill (Ethan) Landry, Matthew Richard, Melanie Richard, and Madilynn Richard, and his 9 great grandchildren. He was also survived by his brother, Thomas (Judy) Gary.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church on April 2, 2025, at 2:00 PM.

Rug was preceded in death by his parents Odelon "OJ" and Rhia Thibodeaux Gary; granddaughter, Kathleen "Katie" Gary; and his siblings, Wanda Gary, Alice Gary, Linda Scott, Wilson Gary, Whitney Gary.

Cremation has been entrusted to Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings.
