HATHAWAY Funeral services for Mr. Robert J. Broussard, 73, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2014 in the St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Rev. Babasino Fernandes officiating. Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Church cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Funeral home visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m., Tuesday; and 8:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of services. A Cursillo Rosary led by Mike Matt will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Broussard died at 6:35 a.m., Sunday, July 6, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Broussard was a lifelong resident of Jennings and was a graduate of the Jennings High School class of 1960. He loved spending time and traveling with his wife of 50 years, Theresa. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, which included various sporting events, cattle shows and rodeos. He also loved to hunt and fish. He also was owner and operator of Broussard Topsoil, which he ran for over 35 years. Beginning January 2000, he served 2 terms on the Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury for District 8. During this time, he was appointed as chairman and co-chairman of several government committees. He raised Brahman and Braford cattle and loved attending cattle sales across the country. He worked for the Louisiana State Department of Highways for 30 years. He was a member of the Louisiana Cattleman Association, Jeff Davis Cattleman Association and the American Brahman Breeders Association. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church where he served as an usher. Survivors include his wife, Theresa Lougon Broussard of Jennings; one daughter, Malinda Ferguson and husband Robert of Roanoke; two sons, Dwayne Broussard of LeBlue Settlement, Brent Broussard and wife Tara of Hathaway; two sisters, Shirley Broussard Gary of Jennings, Kathryn Broussard of Sulphur; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Mr. Broussard was preceded in death by his parents, Nolan and Emma LeJeune Broussard; three sisters, Shelba Jean Kratzer, Jeanelle Dronet, Geraldine Linscombe; and two brothers, Daniel Lee Broussard and Jimmy Lee Broussard.
