It is with heavy hearts that the family of Rita Legros Lewis, 100, of Andrus Cove has passed from this life on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. She is now free of her earthy bonds and resting safely in the arms of Jesus. She was the tenth child born to the late Homer and Agnes LeJeune Legros born on January 27, 1924. She grew up in the Andrus Cove countryside and graduated from Lake Arthur High School as a member of the class of 1941.
She met the love of her life, a soldier, Edward E. Lewis, at a dance in Lake Arthur. Six months later they were married on November 20, 1942. They went on to spend 54 loving years together. She was a loving and dedicated daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one son, James E. Lewis.
She is survived by one son John E. Lewis (Angie) and one daughter Bernadette Lewis Murphy; three grandsons, Rick Murphy, Curran Lewis, and Timothy Lewis; one granddaughter, Mitzie Murphy Vincent; five great grandsons; one special great granddaughter; daughter-in-law Bonnie Bertrand Lewis and a special niece Jeanette Legros Guidry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church with Rev. Keith Pellerin officiating. Burial will follow at Andrus Cove Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Edward.
She will be most remembered for her sassy, matter of fact attitude, but she will be remembered fondly for knowing her was to love her. She will be greatly missed.
A special thanks to Dr. Johnnie Segura and Ashley Thibodeaux RN with Lamm Family Care Hospice for all the care and compassion you showed her.
