Richard Roe, Jr. was born on October 18, 1934 in Ferriday, LA. He spent his early years in the Baton Rouge, LA area and then the Beaumont/Port Arthur areas of East Texas. He graduated as Valedictorian of his class at Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur. He attended Lamar University, and also served in the Merchant Marines in the early 1950’s.
He moved to Jennings and married Shirley Leger in 1956. He spent his entire career in the automobile industry, owning and operating Roe Oldsmobile with his father. He was blessed to do what he loved, meeting people and selling cars well into his 80’s. Because of his genuine love of people, he could still recall almost every customer he had and until the end was always concerned about them and their families well- being.
Mr. Roe was an avid reader and had a wealth of knowledge of history. He had a passion for nature enjoying a lifetime of hunting in West Texas and fishing on the Gulf of Mexico with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family and friends.
His last years of life were spent loving and cherishing his wife and best friend for 64 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Nelda Roe and a son, Richard Roe III.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Shirley Roe; his children Tessie Roe Fischer (John), Laurie Roe Guinn (James), Molly Roe Thibodeaux (Gordon), Noel Roe and Shelly Roe; daughter in law, Jackie Roe; his beloved grandchildren, Stuart, Aaron, Will, Ellen, Devon, Richard, Philip, Caroline, Christina, Paul, Joel, Andrew, Tyler, Kate, Christian and Anna; his 21 “little people”, his great grandchildren; and three sisters in law, Lillian Naquin, Frances Leger and Cheryl Leger.
