Richard "Dicky" Leroy Loewer

Jennings It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Richard “Dicky” Loewer, 66, announces his passing on Friday, January 13, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family he loved so much. Dicky was born on January 4, 1946 in Jennings to the union of Fred C. & Kate E. Loewer. He graduated valedictorian of his class in 1965 from Roanoke High School. Then he graduated from USL in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Dicky worked for American Bank as the Jennings Branch Manager from 1970 to 1981. He left the banking industry and went to work for Shell Offshore until his retirement in 2004. He loved retirement, hunting deer and turkeys, socializing with his coffee group and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Dicky is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Betty Loewer of Roanoke, two sons Richard Wade Loewer and his wife Melinie of Jennings; Kevin E. Loewer and his wife Heather of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Allison, Chris, Sara, and Trey Loewer, and Ariel Fontenot; two brothers, Bill Loewer of Woodworth, LA and Tom Loewer of Tuscon, AZ; and he was “number one son-in-law” to Marguerite Carter of Jennings. His funeral will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Welsh with Rev. Charles Crews officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Monday, January 16, 2012 at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings and Tuesday from 8:00am until time of services. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Welsh. The family would like to give special thanks to the awesome people at Heart of Hospice, especially Shelly Trahan, Mandy Benoit and Mitzi Merrill. Memorial gifts may be made to Heart of Hospice or the American Cancer Society in honor of Dicky Loewer.
