Richard Allan Waltrip Sr., affectionately known as Dickie, passed away on January 28, 2024, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was 92 years old.
Born on July 14, 1931, in Austin, Texas, Dickie was the beloved husband of Karen Fremaux Waltrip and the loving father of Carlena Crador Lundy (Jeff d. 2015) and (J. M. Crador d. 2000), Jacqueline Roe (Richard d. 2010), and Richard Waltrip Jr. (Kristie). He was a loving stepfather to Tanya Richard, Chris (Stephanie) Richard, and Adam (Abby) Richard. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
Dickie was a man of many talents and interests. He had a creative spirit and a passion for painting. He found solace in nature and was an avid outdoorsman. He was very opinionated and an outspoken writer of letters to the editor in local newspapers. Dickie was also a skilled jack-of-all-trades and took extraordinary pride in building his home in Mermentau.
After graduating from Jennings High School, Dickie served his country with dedication and honor in the National Guard. His military service was a testament to his unwavering commitment and loyalty. Throughout his career, Dickie worked for Shell Oil and served as a consultant in the timber and oil fields. His expertise and hard work made a lasting impact in his field. He worshiped at First Baptist Church, where he found comfort and strength.
A celebration of Dickie’s life will be held on Wednesday January 31, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Jennings. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m., with Eric Sonnier officiating.
Pallbearers are Scott Crador, Nicholas Crador, Matthew Crador, Burt Kennedy, Aaron Woods, and Dr. Richard Roe IV. Friends, family, and all those whose lives were touched by Dickie are invited to attend and pay their respects.
Dickie will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of creativity, love for the outdoors, and dedication to his family and community will live on in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in peace.
In Lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to The First Baptist Church of Jennings in Mr. Dickies honor.
