Funeral services for Mr. Richard Boyd Sockrider, 80, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 13, 2016 in the Roanoke United Methodist Church with Rev. Walter Parker and Rev. Pat Deshotel officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings.
Mr. Sockrider died at 2:55 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2016 in the Jennings American Legion Hospital.
Funeral home visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday.
Visitation will resume on Friday at the Roanoke United Methodist church from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
Mr. Sockrider was a lifelong resident of Roanoke and served in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of the Roanoke High School class of 1954 and McNeese State University class of 1958. He was a retired school principal. He was past district governor of the Lions Club where he was a member since 1965 and was on the fire board and fire chief for many years in Roanoke. He was a scout master where he earned the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of the Welsh American Legion where he served as treasurer. Mr. Sockrider worked on mission projects for the Roanoke United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Barbara Sockrider; one son, Boyd Sockrider and wife Melissa of Lake Charles; one sister, Lauren Ella Hebert of South Carolina and two grandchildren, Blake and Tate Sockrider.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Earl and Melba Evans Sockrider and one sister, Carmen Wix.
