Rebecca Lynne Fruge

August 27, 1958 — December 28, 2014

Rebecca Lynne Richard Fruge, of Lake Arthur, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, December 28, 2014. She was born to the late Martin “Bybo” Richard and Rena Thibodeaux on August 27, 1958. Becky spent her adult life as a nurse, a profession she loved. She was best known at St. Francis Cabrini as the nurse who could make any patient laugh, no matter how dire the circumstance, and who could work 24 hours straight as long as she had an ample supply of cracklins and Route 44 Cokes from Sonic. The only thing she loved more than caring for the sick was caring for her family and friends. Becky was generous to a fault. She would give her last dollar to others, then find another dollar to give. Her grandchildren (and many of her friends) learned to call her Beck or Beck Beck once her first grandchild, Darion, christened her so. Her children, Brandi Roy of Iowa, Brandon Roy (Aimee) of Jennings, and Laura Roy Edwards (Chase-who she had finally warmed up to after only 16 years) of Arnaudville, will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her former husband Randy Roy and her step-son Chad Roy. Her grandchildren, Darion, Poe, Cohen, Riley, Ethan, Bradley, Emma, Caleb, Marleigh, Landry, and Benji, will miss her laugh and her custom-order pancakes. She will also be missed by her “old hens”, including Sally Mhire, who she shared coffee with at all hours of the day and night when she wasn’t binge-watching true crime TV shows and critiquing the appraisals on Antiques Roadshow with her furry friend Biffy. Her five siblings, Matin “Gaté” Richard (Margene), Cheryl Price (Rick), Raymond Richard (Georgia), Rena Gaspard (Pat), and Gerald Richard, chose to carry their sister to her final resting place beside her father under beautiful live oak trees bordering the Mermentau River. Visitation and funeral services will be held at Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur. Wake hours are Tuesday, December 30th from 4-9pm with a rosary being said at 6pm. Funeral services will be at 2pm, with a burial following at Duhon Cemetery in Mermentau. All her friends are invited to come, smoke a cigarette, drink some coffee, and pass a good time griping about whatever ails them.
