Raymond Doyle Bangle, 90, went home to be with his Lord on September 22, 2023. Born on July 20, 1933 to Minnie Beatrice Turner and Samuel Paul Bangle in Lucerne, Kansas, Ray – known to many in his family as Doyle – was the ninth of fourteen children.
With his parents and siblings, Ray grew up working on the family wheat farm in Graham County, Kansas and attended the Happy Home School, a little rural schoolhouse, and later graduated from Lenora Rural High School. Ray then attended Pacific Bible College in Portland, Oregon, where he met his first wife, Marilyn Edes. They married in 1955 and had their first child Laurie in 1956. Ray and his small family moved to Houston, Texas in the late 1950s and three more children soon followed. Ray had a natural talent for sales and worked in that field for many years, including starting his own small businesses over the years.
In 1974, Ray married Eleanor Kate Thibodeaux. He worked in Houston for many years, retiring in 2020 to Kate’s hometown of Mermentau, Louisiana. In August of this year, Ray and Kate celebrated 49 years of marriage.
In addition to being a natural salesman, Ray possessed a beautiful singing voice, a true tenor. He loved to sing, and family and friends have many wonderful memories of Ray singing at family reunions and celebrations, his voice always ringing out so strong and true. Singing was a daily pleasure, both for himself and anyone within hearing distance. Ray enjoyed so many things in life: laughing, telling stories, eating good food (pie and watermelon were particularly unsafe in his vicinity) and watching baseball games, especially the Houston Astros. He loved playing long games of Scrabble and could still beat the pants off his opponents at the age of 90, deriving a good-natured pleasure in showing off his great vocabulary! Ray loved his family, his friends and his Lord.
Ray is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kate Bangle; children Laurie (George) Leos, Bonnie White and Brad (Brigid) Bangle; grandchildren Brianna White, George Leos, Stephanie (Vince) Crowley, Lindsay (Alex) Konlande, David Leos, Mollie Bangle andSam Bangle – all from the Houston area; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Virgina Cook of Wichita, Kansas, Norma Lemon of Hill City,Kansas, Minnie (Vern) Gano of Spanaway, Washington, brother Jesse“Jay” (Ronada) Bangle of Houston, Texas; longtime friend Joan Harkin, and many nieces and nephews.
