JENNINGS A Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Ray J. Bertrand, 87, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 11, 2014 in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church with Rev. Charles McMillin officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery Garden of Angels under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Funeral home visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday; and 8:00 a.m. Friday until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Mr. Bertrand was a resident of Jennings since 1947 moving here from Hayes. He was a graduate of the Bell City High School and was the retired proprietor of Rays Laundry and Cleaners. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #19. He was also a member of the VFW Post 3686, AARP and the Good Sam Club. He was a teacher of work ethics and customer service that was based upon the customer being first. He was a gentle man whose acts were reflective of Christian principles. Survivors include his daughter, Diane Saulnier and husband Gregory of Welsh; two sons, Jeryl Wayne Bertrand and wife Cherlyn of Jennings, Glen Dale Bertrand and wife Tirana of DeRidder; one sister, Joyce Williams of Jennings; four grandchildren Kyle Bertrand, Aaron Saulnier, Lisa Daigle, Angelle David; and six great-grandchildren, Wyatt Bertrand, Tyler Daigle, Adilyn Daigle, Addison Saulnier, Mason Claudel, and Madison Claudel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clement and Amanda Bourque Bertrand; his wife, Margaret Gary Bertrand; one sister Nell Jean Harrell and one brother, LeRoy Bertrand. Pallbearers will be Jeryl Bertrand, Glen Bertrand, Gregory Saulnier, Aaron Saulnier, Kyle Bertrand and Jared Daigle. Honorary pallbearer will be Tyler Daigle. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home Activity Fund.
