JENNINGS Funeral services for Mr. Murphy G. Richard, 90, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 31, 2009 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Revs. Anthony Fontenot, Charles McMillin and T.L. Herlong officiating and Msgr. James Gaddy. Burial with Military Graveside Honors will be in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Funeral home visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. Wednesday until time of services Thursday. A rosary will be recited by Deacon Bennett McNeal at 7:00 p.m. today, Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Mr. Richard went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 8:10 PM in the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home. Mr. Richard was a loving, devoted husband and father. He was a very compassionate and giving man, always giving of his time and resources to help the underprivileged. Mr. Richard was a lifelong resident of Jennings and a retired owner of M & S Grocery. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a former salesman for W.B. Donald Chevrolet. Mr. Richard was a member of VFW Post 3686; James O. Hall American Legion Post # 19; and Knights of Columbus 2012. He was founder of Southern Bar-B-Que Sauce and was a charter member of the Popeyes Coffee Club . He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister; he co-founded the Immaculate Conception Credit Union and served on the Finance Committee at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mr. Richard is survived by his wife, Vivian Guidry Richard of Jennings; five daughters, Phyllis Benoit of Sugarland, TX, Gwen Walker of Agoura CA, Sharon Core and husband Jerry of Slidell, Dianna Abell and husband Chuck of Welsh and Bernadine Trahan and husband Louis of Jennings; one son, Murphy Richard, Jr. of Jennings, one sister, Ennis Regan of Sulphur, 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michel and Liza Roy Richard; four brothers, Eddie, Cyrus, David and Sibley Richard; two sisters, Ada Louviere, and Hazel Arnold; four grandchildren, Ricky and Randy Perry, Emily Abell, and Robert Louis Trahan. Pallbearers will be Mr. Richards grandsons.
