JENNINGS Funeral services for Mrs. Minta Joyce Shirley, 82, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 18, 2010 in the Miguez Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jerry Masters officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Funeral home visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until time of services. Mrs. Shirley died at 7:50 a.m., Saturday, March 13, 2010 in Lexington, Kentucky. Mrs. Shirley was a native of Marlin, TX and had lived in Houston. She was a graduate of Lamar High School in Houston and attended the University of Houston. She was a resident of Jennings since 1946 when she married Louis E. Shirley, Jr. Mrs. Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church in Jennings where she taught Sunday School to five year olds for 40 years; she was past president of the PTA, a member of the Entre Nous, she volunteered at the Jennings American Legion Hospital as a Pink Lady for years, was a ballet dancer, golfer and devoted wife and mother. Survivors include one daughter, Minta Jollene Shirley of Lexington, KY, her daughters, Courtney Hambleton of Lexington, KY and Ashley Schmitt and husband Peter of Greenville, IN; son Chip Shirley and wife Sharon of Atlanta, GA; their sons, Chad Shirley and wife Sarah and great grandchildren Nicholas, Madison and Cooper of Atlanta, GA, Lance Shirley and wife Jessica and great grandson, London of Atlanta, Rhett Shirley and wife Molly also of Atlanta, Bobby Treisch and wife, and Justin Treisch; son Dr. Jack Shirley and wife Nancy of San Antonio, TX and their children Brooke Shirley Ansel and husband Clark, Dr. Brett Shirley and fianc Anna Windham of Dallas, TX. Mrs. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Ocie Jolly and Minta Mae Hall Umberfield and husband Dr. Louis E. Shirley, Jr.
