Mildred "Millie" Compton

Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred “Millie” Derks Compton, 92, of Jennings will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Laura Nusbaum officiating. Interment will follow in Raymond Methodist Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Visitation for Mrs. Compton will begin Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. and continue until service time at 1:00 p.m. 

Mrs. Compton graduated from Hathaway High School and was on the Hornet Basketball team. She continued supporting the Hornets as an exuberant fan for many years.

After she married, Millie became a compassionate homemaker and dedicated farmer’s wife. She enjoyed being a member of the Louisiana Cowbelles Association.

Millie was a member of Raymond United Methodist Church and was active in the church choir and the United Methodist Women’s Organization. She enjoyed hosting showers and other festivities for her church and friends and family.

She enjoyed sewing and painting (watercolors and oils) or simply coloring in children’s coloring books. H er talent and enjoyment of these art mediums was instrumental in her charter membership of the Jeff Davis Arts Council.

Mrs. Compton is survived by two daughters, Aprill (Gerald) Moore of Hathaway and Pam (Patrick) Bergeaux of Lake Charles; two sons, Bill (Beth) Compton of Roanoke and Tom (Sally) Compton of Hathaway; two sisters, Eva Landry of Jennings and Ruby “Boo” Young of Jennings; a brother, David (Sarah) Derks of Moss Bluff; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband John; a great-grandson, Eli Russell Williams and her parents Henry and Eva Gary Derks.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Compton, John Compton, Roby Compton, Jack Simmons, Jay Winterbottom and Joe Tupper.
