Jennings
Mary Louise Neely, 94, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Stonebridge Place in Sulphur, Louisiana, where she had been a resident for three and a half years.
Having lived most all of her life in Jennings, she received a bachelor’s degree in English Education from SLI (now ULL) in Lafayette. She taught at Hathaway and Jennings High Schools. She was owner and operator of Mother Goose Land where she was affectionately known by her preschoolers as “Aunt Mary Louise.” Mrs. Neely also worked with young adults with special needs.
She is survived by two sons, Michael “Mickey” Neely and wife Elizabeth of San Antonio; Greg Neely of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Marilyn Lewing (Jim) of Sulphur; five grandchildren, Michelle Neely, Melanie Wright (Chris), Charles Lewing (Debbie), Amanda Dickerson (Michael) and Kate Neely; three great-grandchildren, Ethan and Connor Dickerson and Collin Wright. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Neely was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jacob “Jake” Neely; her parents, Roy and Ruth McKague; a brother, Walter McKague; a daughter, Cynthia Louise Neely.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 12, at the Jennings United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the church on Sunday, December 11. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. Monday until the 1:00 p.m. service with the Reverend Walter Parker officiating. Burial will in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jennings United Methodist Church, the Methodist Children’s Home in Ruston or a charity of choice.
