Mary Louise Carter

JENNINGS Mary Louise Precht Carter died at her home in Jennings on July 21, 2008 at 3:45 p.m. Mary was born on July 22, 1924 in Jennings, and she led a full life for all of her 83 years. She was a graduate of Jennings High School Class of 1941. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree from SLI, she went on to teach for 30 years and never once used her history degree. She instead taught English, chemistry and coached the girls basketball team taking them to the State Championship in 1949. Mary married James Carter of Jennings in October of 1954, and they had 40 years of marriage together before his death in 1994. She belonged to several organizations including Entre Nous, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Retired Teachers. She was also a member of the Jennings United Methodist Church for 70 years. Mary is survived by her son Glenn Carter and wife Regilyn of Jennings; daughter Anne Arceneaux of Jennings; four grandsons, James Carter of Dallas, Texas, John Carter, Kelly Arceneaux and Jeremy Carter all of Jennings; one granddaughter Jean Carter of Jennings; two sisters Ola Mae Self and Frankie Parker, all of Jennings; two brothers, James W. Precht of Jennings and Frank Michael Precht of Fairview, Texas. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James Carter; her parents Frank and Sally Precht and her brother Dwight Precht all of Jennings. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2008 in the Jennings United Methodist Church with Rev. Allan Stackhouse officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under direction of Miguez Funeral Home. Funeral home visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. today, Wednesday; and 8:00 a.m. Thursday in the church until time of services.
