Mary Adele Compton Petticrew

JENNINGS Mary Adele Brown Compton was born April 12, 1919 to Harry Cecil and Ola Alice Bower Brown near Iowa, Louisiana. Her life ended at 95 years of age on July 5, 2014. She attended the Iowa Methodist Church and Iowa School through the Seventh Grade. After her fathers death, her family moved to the Raymond Community in 1932. She became involved in the Raymond United Methodist Church. She attended Jennings High School, and after graduating, she married Robert Henry Compton on December 12, 1936. Mary Adele taught classes in Sundays school and Bible School and served as President of the Raymond United Methodist Women. She also served on the National Board of Global Ministries of the Methodist Church. Having taken piano lessons in Iowa she taught herself to play the organ and became organist for both the Iowa and Raymond Churches through her early nineties. She remained physically active for many years ” enjoying her flowers and picking up limbs in her yard. Her husband Robert Compton preceded her in death. Of her union with Robert, three children were born: Robert Lynn (Judy) of Oak Park, Illinois; Genevieve Marie (Noel) Compton Nash of Keithville, Louisiana, and Cecil Gene (Carol) Compton of Hathaway. Other surviving family members are her grandchildren: Robert Patton (Karen) Musselman of McKinney, Texas, Keith Lynn (Nilofar) Compton of Rockville, Maryland, Michael Victor Compton of Evanston, Illinois, Randy Wayne (Lisa) Nash of Shreveport, Louisiana, Cindy Lynn (Robert) Nash Palmer of Marshall, Texas, Paula Jean Compton Charles of Covington, Louisiana, Dwayne Henry (Holly) Compton of Hathaway, and Kathryn Mary (Andre) Compton Labbe of New Orleans, Louisiana. Great Grandchildren: Stephanie Anne, Kyle Robb and Carter Howell Musselman of McKinney, Texas; Kevin Lawrence Compton of Rockville, Maryland; Tiffany Lynn Nash of Shreveport, Louisiana. Preceding her in death were 2 sisters, Thelma Jester and Dorothy McCown and 1 brother, Harold Brown. Surviving sisters are Claribel Sebesta of Seguin, Texas, Betty Stanton of Granbury, Texas and Barbara Litteral of Hathaway. Special thanks for love and support are given for caregivers Bethel Robinson, Moly Bellon and the Heart of Hospice personnel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2014 in the Raymond United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Ezell officiating. Funeral home visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday. Mrs. Comptons body will be brought to the church at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday for the 10:00 a.m. service. Burial will be in the Raymond Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Mrs. Compton died at 7:10 p.m., Saturday, July 5, 2014 at her residence. Pallbearers will be Kent Brown, Bill Compton, Roy Talley, Dwayne Compton, Clint Charles and Andre Labbe. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Sebesta, Wynn Stanton, Charles Litteral, Dickie Jester, Charles Ray McCown and Larry McCown. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Raymond United Methodist Church.
