Martha Ellen Burgess

Jennings Graveside services for Mrs. Martha Ellen Burgess, 88 will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Masters officiating. Funeral home visitation will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Mrs. Burgess died Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 1:06 a.m. in the Jennings American Legion Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Jennings and a member of the First Baptist Church and Sunday School Class. She was a graduate of the Jennings High School Class of 1940. Mrs. Burgess attended USL (now UL) and McNeese where she received her BA in Library Science. She was librarian for Jennings High School for many years, was a board member for the Carnegie Library and a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Burgess is survived by two daughters; Cheryl Lynn Burgess (John Wilson) Cody of Baton Rouge, LA and Robin Sue Burgess (Kenneth O.) Graves of Titus, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hutt Burgess, her parents; John Roscoe and Katie Sue McCaw Robbins and a brother Shuebel Robbins.
