Jennings Funeral services for Mrs. Melvin J. (Marlene Jeanette Parsley) Smith, 79 will be held at 11: a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. David Broussard officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Mrs. Smith died Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 7:00 a.m. at her residence. Visitation will be held on Monday August 26, 2013 from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday visitation will be from 8 a.m. until the time of service. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong resident of Evangeline and graduated from Iota High School Class of 1954. She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, she enjoyed doing ceramics, going to the casino and loved spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband ; Melvin Smith of Evangeline, four daughters; Phyllis Lytle and Jessica LeJeune both of Evangeline, LA, Ellisia Kaye Miller of Monticello, AR, and Melissa Joann (Joseph) Cormier of Navarre, FL, four sons; Edwin James (Alice) Smith, Kevin Dale Smith and Melvin Kyle ( Angie) Smith all of Evangeline, LA and Joel Neil (Jeanne) Smith of Elizabeth, LA, a sister; Patsy (Donald) Black of Broussard, LA and four brothers; Archie (Margaret) Parsley, Kelly (Joanna) Parsley, Charlie (Lezia) Parlsey all of Evangeline, LA and Darrell ( Donna) Parsley of Iota, LA, 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; Henry Lewis and Alamonde Hebert Parsley, a sister, Sarah David, four brothers, Daniel, Joyce, Jimmy and Richard Parsley, a grandchild, Erick Smith and a great-grandchild, Christopher Bertenot.
