Marjorie Lorene Holston

December 31, 1924 — December 1, 2013

Jennings Funeral services for Marjorie Crawford Holston, 88, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings, Louisiana. Reverend Josh Belt will officiate. Mrs. Holston passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Louisiana Extended Care Hospital in Lafayette after a short illness. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Marjorie was born one of nine children to Ivan Earl and Ethel Crawford. She was raised on the family farm near Ames, Oklahoma, land that her grandfather claimed during The Oklahoma Land Rush of the late 1800s. She moved to Louisiana over sixty years ago with her husband, Charles Holston, to pursue opportunities in the oilfield. Mrs. Holston played an important part in their many business ventures, but her main devotion was always to the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Holston lived most of her life in Louisiana, residing in both Jennings and Lafayette. For the past six years, she enjoyed her days as a resident of the Garden View Assisted Living community in Lafayette. During that time, she delighted in the many meaningful friendships of both residents and staff at this place she called home. Mrs. Holston was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Holston, her daughter, Cheryl Maggiore, and her son-in-law, Ged Fleming. She is survived by her children, Rhonda Watkins and husband Lane, Karol Fleming, Craig Holston and wife Karen and son-in-law, Ernest Maggiore. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Lanette Maggiore Lejeune, Kennon Watkins, Eileen Maggiore Whiting, Kara Maggiore Monvoisin, Chuck Watkins, Ross Holston, and Alex Holston, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Kennon Watkins, Chuck Watkins, Ross Holston, Alex Holston, Ted Whiting, and James Monvoisin. Immediately following the services at Miguez Funeral Home, interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Garden View Assisted Living, the very capable and kind doctors and nurses of Lafayette General Medical Center and Louisiana Extended Care Hospital for their thoughtful care of Mrs. Holston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marjorie Holstons memory to the George E. Ged Fleming Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Business at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, sent to: UL Lafayette Office of Development, P.O. Drawer 43410, Lafayette, Louisiana 70504.
