JENNINGS A Mass of Christian Burial for Mae Isabelle Castille Johnson will be held on Monday May 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings, Louisiana. Mae Isabelle Castille passed away peacefully on April 29, 2013 in Jennings, Louisiana. Reverend Charles McMillin, Pastor of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church will be the celebrant of the funeral mass and the services. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the funeral from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 oclock at the time of service. A native and life-long resident of Jennings, Miss Mazie as she was known, was born March 6, 1917 to Marie Angelina Arnaudet and Drew Joseph Castille in the home they built at 819 North Cutting Avenue in Jennings. Her maternal grandparents were Angelina Doucet of Evangeline, LA, daughter of Angelina Gatt and Narcisse Doucet, both of St. Landry Parish, and Laurent Arnaudet of Azet, France, son of Marie Porte and Bertrand Arnaudet, also of France. Her paternal grandparents were Marie Eudalie Richard of Arnaudville, LA, daughter of Marguerite Emelina Bergeron and Theogene Richard, both of Grand Coteau, LA, and Alcee Castille of Breaux Bridge, son of Marie Celimene Berard of St. Martin Parish and Francois Theogene Castille of St. Landry Parish. Mazie Johnson was educated at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans and Jennings High School where she was a varsity football cheerleader and also a member of both the girls basketball and tennis teams. After high school graduation, Mazie attended and graduated from the Marinello National School of Cosmeticians in New Orleans, LA. She then attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette, LA. Returning to Jennings, she married her high school sweetheart Chris Johnson on April 20, 1941. As a young woman, Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and an active member in both social and civic clubs in Jennings. She was a charter member of both Entre Nous and the Sewing Club and a life-long parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church. Every year she managed to be a Room Mother for one of her three childrens elementary school classrooms. Mazie and her husband Chris loved to dance and were charter members of the Bon Temps Dance Club along with their group of life-long friends. She was a loving wife, a conscientious mother and a loyal friend. Her boundless energy was amazing, even as she grew older. Mazie loved traveling, dancing and visiting over morning coffee with her friends. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughters, Mary Christine and husband Earl J. Blackwell, of Lafayette, LA and Drew Ann, widow of Clifford J. Frey, of Jennings, and one son, Christopher J. Johnson of Sealy, Texas and his wife, the former Kelly Bowen. Her grandchildren are Christine Blackwell Van Eaton, and husband Mark of Lafayette, Charlotte Blackwell Acuff, and husband Michael of The Woodlands, Texas, Tiffany Frey Theunissen, and husband Jay of Jennings, and Bowen, Clayton and Michael Johnson of Sealy, Texas. Her great-grandchildren are Matthew Leger, Andrew, Joseph and Samuel Van Eaton of Lafayette, Abb and Owen Acuff of The Woodlands, and Little Mazie Johnson, Sealy, Texas. Mae Isabelle Castille Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher C. Johnson, her sister, Marie Lucille Castille Arnette and brother-in-law W.G. (Corky) Arnette and her aunt and uncle, Frances Bouanchaud Arnaudet and Martin Louis (Mitt) Arnaudet. Pallbearers are Mrs. Johnsons grandsons and great grandsons.
