Mr. Louis O. Trahan, Jr. (92), a faithful husband of 70 years to Wilda Mary (Woods) Trahan, a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died
on November 1, 2020 in his home surrounded by his family.
A native of Lake Arthur, he was a resident of the Gueydan area; he served in the U.S. Marines Corps as a Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1950.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, served on the Board of Trustees and on the Board of St. Maria Goretti School. He was a member of the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus.

A retired farmer and cattleman he held memberships in Vermillion Parish Farm Bureau and Vermillion Rice Grower’s Association. He was an avid supporter of Jeff Davis 4-H Foundation. He was also a member of the National Rifleman’s Association, American Legion Post 403, VFW Post 3244, and the Lake Arthur Boat Club.

He served as President of the Fritz Lang Scholarship Foundation upon Mr. Fritz Lang’s death in 1998 up to the present time. He also served as Secretary Treasurer of Jefferson Davis Electric Co-op, and was a member of the Advisory Board of Directors of Vermilion Bank and Trust Co.

Louis Trahan Jr. was a progressive farmer who was a respected leader in the community and at home. He was a family man and cherished the time he spent with his family. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him dearly.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Lenora Menard (Larry) of New Iberia; seven sons, Louis Keith (Margaret) of Lafayette, James Neal (Marie) of Roanoke, Charles Reed (Bernadine) of Butte La Rose, Anthony Ross (Celeste) of New Iberia, Aaron Seth (Elizabeth) of Lake Charles, Ivan Jess (Sandra) of Leesville, and Joel Evan (Dharma) of Gueydan; one sister, Arlene Hill of Clinton Mississippi; two brothers, Melvin Trahan (Ruth) of Meaux, and Jerald Trahan (JoAnn) of Gueydan; 32 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.

Jr. Trahan was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 70 years Wilda Mary (Woods) Trahan who departed 2 days prior to her husband. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Alicia Conner Trahan, a dear daughter-in-law, Madeline Hymel Trahan; and siblings, Eloise Freyou, Alice Sailor, Florence Manuel, Gwen Oliver, Raymond Trahan, Henry Trahan, Wardell Trahan, Richard Trahan and Murriel Trahan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Rev. Jay Alexius officiating.

Visitation will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Arthur on Friday, November 20, 2020 from 2:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. It will resume on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
Burial will be at the Andrus Cove Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
