JENNINGS Funeral services for Mr. Louis F. Gaudet, Jr., 83, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2012 in the Miguez Funeral Home with Revs. Charles McMillin and Jerry Masters officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Gaudet died at 5:10 a.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2012 in the Jennings American Legion Hospital. Funeral home visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., today, Wednesday; and 8:00 a.m. Thursday until time of services. Mr. Gaudet was a native of Westwego and a resident of Jennings since 1953 moving here from Baton Rouge. He graduated from Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge in 1947, and SLI in Lafayette, B.S. Degree, in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He received a Masters Degree in administration and supervision from LSU in 1958. He completed 30 graduate hours above his Masters degree from LSU and McNeese State University. He began teaching and coaching at Jennings High School in 1953. He served as head basketball coach and assistant football coach. He was named Coach of the Year in basketball in 1954 and 1957. Mr. Gaudet was named Assistant Principal of Jennings High School in 1957, served until 1963. He was named Principal of Jennings Northside in 1963, served until 1968, named Supervisor of Instruction and Special Services in 1968, served until 1974, named Assistant Superintendent of Administration in 1974. Mr. Gaudet was appointed Superintendent July 1, 1976. Mr. Gaudet was a member of many organizations including Louisiana Teachers Association, Louisiana Association of School Business Officials, Louisiana Association of School Superintendents and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Fraternity. He loved to golf, hunt, fish, swim and was a spectator of athletic events and carpentry. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jeanette McNabb Gaudet, Jennings; three daughters, Lisa Royer and husband Terry of Jennings, Angela Gary and husband Troy of Jennings and Tanya Gaudet; one son, Terry Gaudet and wife Sylvia of Sulphur; a special daughter, Betty Cormier and husband Frank of Lafayette; three sisters, Rosemary Champagne of Baton Rouge, Doris Hennan of Pearland, TX, Gloria Smith of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Frederick and Nora LeBlanc Gaudet and one sister, Louise Ferrara.
