JENNINGS Funeral services for Mr. Lionel W. Newman, 84, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2011 in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with The Very Rev. Anthony Fontenot officiating. Burial with full military graveside honors will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home. Funeral home visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Friday, and 8:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services. A Cursillo rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel. Mr. Newman died at 1:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Newman was a native of Beaumont, Texas and a resident of Jennings for over 64 years. He was a retired tool pusher in the oil and gas industry. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Newman loved to crab, fish, shrimp and play with his grandchildren. He liked the Saints and LSU Tigers. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Ruby Mae Lavergne Newman of Jennings; one daughter, Everette Sue Newman Robson of Youngsville; one son, Daryl Wayne Newman and wife Blanca Stella of Lake Charles; three grandchildren, Melanie (Joe) Hollier, Andrea (Joey) Strozik, Bryan W. Newman; seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Richard, Jared Richard, Allyson Richard, Peyton Hollier, Carson Hollier, Mason Strozik, Adrianna Strozik; and one great-great grandchild, Addison Richard. Mr. Newman is preceded in death by his parents, Euclide and Katherine Wilson Newman; and one granddaughter, Marla Robson.
