It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Linda Gail Guidroz O'Brien, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, Nynna and friend on August 27, 2024.
Born in the middle of the last century on September 1, 1950, to Bertha and Esdras Guidroz. She was raised in Opelousas. She embodied the spirit of Louisiana and carried it with her throughout her life.
In 1968, she graduated from Opelousas High School and then became a student of LSU in Eunice where she met her husband, George, of 52 years. The two of them moved to Baton Rouge where she graduated from LSU, Phi Kappa Phi with a degree in Education in 1972. Her love for purple and gold ran deep throughout her life. Sundays were sacred with her wearing her Fleur de Lis boots to cheer on Drew Brees, Sean Payton and the Saints.
A true Cajun, she loved the aroma of a good gumbo and boiled crawfish. Mardi Gras was her favorite time of year as she reveled in the festivities and dancing to Cajun music at Lakeview Park in Eunice, LA.
Linda had a deep connection with nature, finding peace in her garden, surrounded by the plants she nurtured. The lake was her sanctuary, where she could relax and reflect on life.
Her love of life extended to small things, such as her favorite weather man, Rob Perillo, black jellybeans and sitting on the porch swing with a good glass of wine.
Linda dedicated her life to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and resilience. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her. She is honored with unsolicited calls from around the country.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and was an active member of the Lake Arthur community.
She is survived by her husband, George Joseph O'Brien, ll.; two daughters, Heather (Gary) High and Erin O'Brien; sister, Mildred Edmond; and three grandchildren, Gabriel O'Brien, Mason High, and Paige Stracener, as well as her loving, faithful rescued dog, Bella and cat Beau.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Versie Byars.
The family is honoring her wishes of cremation under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Lake Arthur. A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 in the Miguez Funeral Home of Lake Arthur from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited at 3:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life Service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests books be donated in her memory to Lake Arthur Elementary School, as she was an avid reader and lover of a good book.
