Lawrence Placide Legros

Jennings A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mr. Lawrence Placide LeGros, 95, on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church with Rev. Charles McMillin officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Visitation will begin Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. A rosary will be led by his son-in-law Deacon Frank Cormier at 10:00 a.m. that Thursday morning. Mr. LeGros died Friday, July 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home. Mr. LeGros was a native and lifelong resident of Mermentau Cove, La., a retired farmer and a World War II Navy Veteran. He was a member of the St. John Evangelist Church in Mermentau, the Lake Arthur VFW Post, a past member of the Honor Guard, the Lake Arthur American legion Post #403, the Mermentau Third Degree Knights of Columbus and the Crowley Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. The Acadia Chapter of the Louisiana Society Daughters of the American Revolution chose Mr. LeGros as their adopted veteran for the past six years. He is survived by a daughter, Connie Marie Cormier and husband Deacon Frank Cormier of Lafayette, LA.; a daughter-in-law, Melanie LeGros of Cape Coral, FL., a sister, Lucille Bailey of Modesta, CA.; and a brother, Ret. Lt. Col. James R. LeGros and his wife Sue of Lake Charles; six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Mr. LeGros was preceded in death by his parents, Oneal and Liza Henry LeGros; his wife, Melba Lee LeGros; a son, Gregory Lawrence LeGros; six sisters, Bessie L. Alston, Eula L. Rodrigue, Olive L. Liechty, Hazel L. VanMerrienboer, Lillian L. Egger and Laura L. Woods; and one brother, Joseph McNeal LeGros.
