Celebrating the Life of Brenda “Kay” Huber Broussard
August 28, 1949 – July 6, 2024
With hearts both heavy and grateful, our family asks that you join us in celebrating the life and loving legacy of Kay. She was a beacon of compassion, and deeply touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Kay was born in Jennings, Louisiana and resided in Baton Rouge. As a devoted spouse and mother, Kay loved fiercely. She treasured the more than 56 years of companionship with her husband, Pete. They had three children together, Chris, Kellie, and Brady, and Kay dedicated her early years to care for her children. With a BA degree from Louisiana State University and a master’s degree in library science from Southeastern University, in 1988 she pursued her lifelong career dream of being a librarian at then, The Chapel Schools Trafton Academy, now The Dunham School. But she was much more than a librarian, she was “homebase” for countless students who just needed a listening ear, and everyone knew she had an open-door policy. In turn, she brought many individuals to Christ, which was truly her deepest passion. To know Kay was to know our Lord and Savior. She was a devout prayer warrior, cherished friend, a source of comfort, and a pillar of strength to all who crossed her path.
Kay’s philanthropic spirit and love of our Lord led her to pursue many exciting adventures including trips to China, mission trips to Jamaica, and walking in the steps of Jesus in Jerusalem. These journeys were personal missions of exploration, with a devotion to share the message of Christ. Her warmth, compassion, and genuine interest in the well-being of others left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered in her journeys.
Kay found solace in gardening and time in nature. The family has fond memories of summer and winter vacations in Colorado, treasured lake time at False River, and soaking up sunshine on various beaches. Fishing was also a pastime that Kay found peace. She also had a profound love of music, which began early playing on her baby grand piano. She had an impressive vinyl collection with favorites from Neil Diamond, Linda Ronstadt, Willie Nelson among others. The classic Ave Maria always made her heart swell and brought her to tears. In her presence, there was always a sense of adventure and joy.
Kay’s spirit and legacy lives on in the love and lessons she imparted. She is survived by her husband, Romain Pierre Broussard “Pete”, three children and their families: Chris Broussard and his children Alise, Bennett, and Davin; Kellie and Michael Wilhite and their son Chase; Brady and Amy Broussard and their children Julian and Auden. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellie Flournoy Stafford, and Herman Dutch Huber. We take comfort knowing she has found eternal peace, which she so deeply longed. A family burial will take place Thursday, July 11. Kay will be laid to rest in Jennings with her mother at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at The Dunham School in the Brown-Holt Chapel Arts Center on Friday, July 12 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests gifts be made to The Dunham School, The Pearl at Jamestown, or ACCESS in Little Rock supporting the scholarship fund for individuals with special needs.
