Virginia Joyce Barras, 89, was called to her Heavenly home on December 21, 2020, following a lengthy illness.
Born on April 3, 1931 in Johnson Bayou, Louisiana to Otis Paul and Halena Trahan Billiot Jinks, Mrs. Barras lived most of her life in the Sulphur area. She was a loving homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and working in her flower beds and yard. She was lovingly called “Maw Maw Barras” by the many children she cared for over the years. Mrs. Barras was a faithful member of the United Pentecostal Church, where she taught Sunday School to the little ones early in her membership.
Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are five daughters, Darlene Morgan (Michael) of New Orleans, Lynette Soileau (Brad) of Lake Charles, Wadeolene Rose (Scott) of Sulphur, Glenda Femia of Jennings, and Jo Sinclair (Blane Devillier) of Westlake; ten grandchildren, Charles Hynes (Danelle), Shawntel Alleman Stacy (Jake), Ashley Soileau, Kristen Soileau Freeman (Conrad), Thomas Alleman (Rachel), Brittany Femia, Brock Nichols, Madison Sinclair, Niki Rose, and Dez Rose; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Don Billiot (Faye), Jimmy Billiot (Treva) both of Johnson Bayou and Daniel Billiot of Indian Village; five sisters, Rosalie Colligan (John) of Lake Charles, Violet Ryan of Indian Village, Bonnie Caudill of Holly Beach, Frances Romero (Howard) of Johnson Bayou, Annabelle Rennie of Houston, Tx; former son-in-law Clay Sinclair of Lake Charles; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Segar Morgan, her second husband, Joseph “Wade” Barras; her son, Ronnie Morgan; a brother, Lloyd Billiot; and two sisters, June Billiot and Gladys Bullard.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on December 28, 2020, at the United Pentecostal Church of Sulphur under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home. Rev. Jeanne Gunter will officiate. Interment will be at Hackberry Community Cemetery in Hackberry, Louisiana. Visitation will be December 28, 2020 at the church from 11 A.M. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the family to help with medical and funeral expenses.
