LAKE ARTHUR A time of visitation in remembrance of the life of Joy Durapau Tanner will be observed at Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 from 3:30 PM until 9:00 PM and on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church on Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM with Rev. Jerry Masters officiating. Joy was born to Charlie and Mainie Vaughan Durapau June 6, 1928 and went to school at Lake Arthur High. After graduating along with the close-knit Class of 45 , she went to Louisiana College in Pineville. During the 1946 Lake Arthur Camp Meeting, she met Jack Tanner of Crowley, LA. The next summer they married and went to Clarke Memorial College in Newton, Mississippi for Jack to finish junior college. In 1948 they came back to Louisiana College where togheter, they received their degrees. After Jacks pastoring Southern Baptist Churches throughout South and Southwest Louisiana for fifty years, they retired to the Durapau home place in 2000. Within two weeks into retirement, Jack was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease). Joy was trained and cared for him six years before he passed away. Preceding Joy in death are her parents, Maimie and Charlie Durapau; a daughter Dayna Banks, who died in a plane crash, and her husband Jack Tanner. Surviving her are a son and daughter-in-law, David and Donna Tanner of Westlake; two grandsons, V.J. Tanner and wife Stephannie of Sulphur and Patrick Banks and wife Laci of Round Mountain, Nevada. The joys of Joys life, along with so many wonderful friends, are her great grandchildren, Sophia and Lila Tanner and Gavin and Rachael Banks and a number of step-great grandchildren.
