Funeral services for Joseph Earnest Taylor, Jr., age 88, of Jennings, Louisiana, will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Bro. Kyle Sonnier officiating. Burial with full Military Honors rendered by Post 19 of the American Legion will follow in Andrus Cove Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
Visitation for Mr. Taylor will begin on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Miguez Chapel. Visitation will continue Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Mr. Taylor went to be with his heavenly father surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, September 15, 2019. He was born on August 5, 1931, in Bedford, Virginia, the son of Rachel Fogle Taylor. After his mother’s illness he was raised by his grandparents, John and Kathrine Fogle, on the family’s tobacco farm in Bedford, Virginia. At the age of eighteen he enlisted in the United States Army and served on the front lines of the Korean War where he received a purple heart for his service. He met his wife of 65 years while stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana, and on February 28, 1954, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Linda Lou Courville.
After serving his country, he was employed as a boilermaker and later pursued a career in the oilfield. He was a welder by trade and later served as the yard supervisor for Fred Wilson Drilling. He was a founding member of Cornerstone Baptist Church where he faithfully served his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed his family, loved to garden, travel, work puzzles, and was an avid fan of baseball and football.
He is survived by his wife Linda Taylor; one son, Joseph E. Taylor, III, and his wife, Brenda; four daughters, Vanessa Rider and her husband Glenn, Cheryl Huval and her husband Tommy, all of Jennings, Vicky Richard and her husband, David, of Gillis, and Lisa Sanders and her husband Carl (Tiger) of Jenkins, Missouri; nine grandchildren Brandon Rider, Steven Rider and his wife Gabby, Kimberly Rider, Aaron Taylor and his wife Wendy, Lynnlee Brewer and her husband Nick, Jacob Richard, Alyssa Broussard and her husband Chase, Rachel Ayo and her husband Michael, Taylor Sanders, and two great grandchildren, Lauren Rider and Lillian Rider.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, John and Kathrine Fogle, his mother, Rachel Taylor, one son Curtis Wayne Taylor and one grandson Jeremy Lee Taylor.
Carrying him to his final resting place will be Joseph E. Taylor, III, Brandon Rider, Steven Rider, Aaron Taylor, Jacob Richard, and Taylor Sanders.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Jill Angelle Breaux, NP, Dr. Ricky Edwards, Lamm Family Care Hospice, and in his final days, granddaughter, Kimberly Rider, for their care and kindness during Joe’s final journey.
