John Prather

JENNINGS Funeral services for Mr. John Prather, 77, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 1, 2011 in the Jennings Church of Christ with J.C. Bailey and Douglas Broyles officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Funeral home visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Monday; and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church, Tuesday. Mr. Prather died at 6:07 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Prather was a lifelong resident of Jennings and a high school graduate and he attended college for three years. He served in the United States Army and retired as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service with 30+ years of service. He was a member of the Jennings Church of Christ where he served as Treasurer, Deacon and Elder. Survivors include his wife, Janet Floyd Prather of Jennings; one son, Barton Wade Prather of Jennings; three sisters, Vernice Prather of Jennings, Aline Prather of Jennings, Ethel Gunnels and husband Jim of Jennings; and one brother, Harry Prather and wife Jean of Denham Springs. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ophelia Istre Prather; two brothers, Lee and Wallace Prather; and one sister, Altia St. Amant.
