John Abshire

LAKE ARTHUR Funeral services for Mr. John Abshire, 85, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 7, 2010 in the Miguez Funeral Home with Chaplain Robin Norris officiating. Burial with Military Graveside Honors will be in Andrus Cove Cemetery. Funeral home visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., today, Friday; and 8:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services. Mr. Abshire died at 4:30 a.m., Thursday, August 5, 2010 in the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings. Survivors include his three daughters, Carolyn Parker of Lake Arthur, Evelyn Bertrand of Lake Arthur and Pamela Gary of Lake Charles; one son, Ronald Abshire of Lake Charles, two sisters, Nancy Tarlton and Audrey Downs both of Florida; two brothers, Herbert Pratt of Lake Charles and Bill Abshire of xxxx; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Mr. Abshire was a native of Lake Arthur. He was a former resident of Orange, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Lake Arthur VFW Post 3244 and American Legion Post 403 and the Federal Order of Eagles in Orange, Texas. Mr. Abshire was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Leonard, Thomas and Sol Abshire; one sister, Letha Scooper; and one brother, Wilson Abshire.
