Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Wayne Hughes, 73, of Welsh will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Arthur with Rev. Roland Vaughn officiating.  Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Visitation for Mr. Hughes will begin on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. and will close at 8:00 p.m.  It will resume Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. and continue until time of service.

Mr. Hughes was born on September 8, 1948, in Pomona, California to Noel and Catherine York Hughes, but spent most of his life in south Louisiana.  He received a business degree from McNeese University while working as mud engineer in the oil and gas industry.  He also served his country honorably as a member of the United States Navy.

Mr. Hughes was full of life and had a wide range of hobbies and things he enjoyed doing.  He loved anything with speed and enjoyed cycling around the area.  Tailgating at McNeese games was a favorite pastime along with cooking pizzas for all his family and friends.  He was a big fan of boxing and playing chess.  He was a loving husband, dad and grandfather and spending time with his grandkids was a special highlight of his life.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his two sons, Lance (Jennifer) Hughes of Lake Charles and Lee (Stacey) Hughes of Welsh; two sisters, Linda, and Tina; and three grandchildren, Joshua Hughes, Dylan Hughes and fiancé Macey Pace and Linsey Hughes.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Sue Broussard Hughes; his parents and one brother, Richard Hughes.
