On September 28, 2024, Jeanne Theresa Phillpott Qualey, 75, passed away from a long illness surrounded by family.
She was born on June 12, 1949, to James and Joyce Phillpott in New Orleans, La. As the second of eight children, Jeanne enjoyed a childhood filled with love and companionship. After graduating as a National Merit Finalist from Sacred Heart School on Canal St., Jeanne left to attend school at Michigan University. It is here that she learned that she was NOT a lover of cold weather, and she returned to the subtropic region that is known as Louisiana. Soon after her return, she met the love of her life, Thomas Qualey. Throughout their nearly 54 years of marriage, Tom and Jeanne owned and ran the Jefferson Davis Nursing Home in Jennings for the better part of two decades. Jeanne graduated from the University of Southwest Louisiana (now ULL) with a bachelor's in Health Records Administration and became a Registered Records Administrator. Next, she received her master's in business administration from Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio, Tx.
After retiring from being Nursing Home Administrators, Tom and Jeanne entered the second half of their career lives and both became college instructors. At one point, this loving couple comprised the entire Medical Records Dept., at LSUE. It was during their time of teaching that they came to embrace online instruction. This new avenue of teaching allowed them to join their two passions, traveling around the world and teaching. Tom and Jeanne visited 6 of the 7 continents. The lone continent not to be visited was not Antarctica and they were only stopped by Jeanne's refusal to be cold ever again! Tom and Jeanne had two beautiful and successful daughters of whom they could not be prouder. Jeanne was an active member of the Business of Professional Women and the Catholic Daughters while living in Jennings.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Qualey; daughter Kathy Grubb and son in law, David Grubb; daughter Terry Savant and son in law, Victor Savant; four grandchildren: Corinne and Megan Grubb and Cameron and Chris Savant; one sister, Janet Phillpott; and three brothers: Jim and wife Brenda, Patrick, and Matthew, wife Denise, Phillpott; along with many nieces and nephews.
Jeanne was preceded in death both of her parents, her sisters Joyce Boudreaux and Judy O'Connell; and one brother, Michael Phillpott.
A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday October 2, 2024, in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings, LA, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and to conclude at 12:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 12:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow, both led by Deacon Wayne Chapman.
A private mausoleum entombment will be held on Wednesday October 2, 2024, in Calvary Cemetery, under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the School of Sisters of Notre Dame or to the Christian Brothers
