LAKE ARTHUR A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015, for Mrs. Isabel S. Parker, nee Schlesinger, 89, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Msgr. Ronald Groth officiating. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the St. Anthony Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Lake Arthur. Visitation will be from 3:30 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday; and 8:00 a.m. Thursday until time of services. Mrs. Parker died at her residence in Lake Arthur on Sunday, November 15, 2015 surrounded by family and caregivers. Mrs. Parker was born February 6, 1926, in Lake Arthur, Louisiana to Orais Schlesinger and Azema Dugas Schlesinger. She graduated from Lake Arthur High School in 1943. After graduation she attended nursing school at Hotel Dieu in New Orleans and graduated in 1947. She was a registered nurse for over 50 years where she worked in numerous hospitals and for the Jeff Davis Parish Health Unit. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister, headed up the Social Ministry, taught high school religion classes and prepared young adults for the sacrament of Confirmation. She also chaired the Lenten Paschal Supper for many years. She was an active member of the Ladies Altar Society at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and received the Mother of the Year Award in 1969. She was active in the Lake Arthur Women’s Library Club, Bon Temps Rouler Dance Club and Entre Nous. She loved her friends and playing bridge and bouree, and always playing to win. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and care giver to many. She enjoyed playing cards with her grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Kathryn Parker of Broussard, five sons, Robert Ross Parker and wife Pricilla of Lake Arthur, James Powell Parker and wife Shirley of Broussard, William David Parker and wife Mary Frances of Shreveport, Clyde Timothy Parker and wife Elizabeth of Lake Arthur, and Richard Keith Parker and wife Carolyn of Roanoke; two sisters Dorothy Jane Smith of Lake Arthur and Bonnie Howard of Jennings and two special sisters in law, Rose Schlesinger of Lake Arthur and Dorthy Ruth Young of Pleasanton, Texas. Mrs. Parker is preceded in death by her parents, Orais and Azema Dugas Schlesinger; her husband, W.R.Parker; two sisters, Eldora Tedesco and Leola Benoit; and three brothers, Albert, George and Fred Schlesinger. Participants for Mrs. Parker’s services will be granddaughters Kelly Elizabeth Parker and Ann Marie Parker McCrory as Readers and Laurie Christine Parker Glotta and Anndrea Marie Crouch as Gift Bearers. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Robert Ross Parker,Jr.,Jeffrey Powell Parker, Corey Timothy Parker, David William Parker, Matthew Ross Crouch and Brian Keith Parker. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren and her great grandchildren, Joseph Ross Parker, Genevieve Noelle Parker Carney, Stephen Michael Parker, Catherine Frances Parker Hendricks, Mary Jane Parker, John Patrick Parker, Elizabeth Claire Parker, Kade Ross Parker, Naomi Marie Parker, Elise Christine Glotta, Jacqueline Elaine Glotta, Patrick Michael Carney, Mary Isabel Carney, Daniel Joseph Carney, James Richard McCrory, Andrew Wylie Parker and Hallie Kathryn Crouch. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care and her wonderful caregivers, Yvonne Meyers, Lou Dugas, Sandra Guidry, Kay Landry, Shannon Guidry, Terri Boudreaux, Connie Legros, Karen Wright, Dolores Miers, Sissy Broussard, RoxAnn Leger, Deloris Broussard and Paula Benoit. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St.Jude Childrens Research hospital.
