Hugh W Batey, Jr

Mr. Hugh W. Batey, Jr., 84, of Jennings passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 22, 2021. 

Mr. Batey was born on January 22, 1937 in Wisner, Louisiana to Hugh and Mary S. Batey.

After moving to Jennings in 1972, Mr. Batey opened Batey’s Bait Shop.  He enjoyed playing music and especially enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. He loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sylvia Batey; five children, Marie Batey, daughter-in-law of Jennings, Darrell and Cindy Batey of Vidalia, Gwen and Les Castle of Jennings, Gary and Benita Batey of Galveston, TX and Kim Batey Hurt of Portland, Oregon; twelve grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

Mr. Batey was preceded in death by his parents; son Ronnie Batey, Sr., grandson, Ronnie Batey, Jr., and three sisters, Lela “Bell” Batey, Joyce Bass and Sadie “Mae” Trahan.

Funeral services will be held in Wisner, Louisiana with burial at Holly Grove Cemetery.  Cremation is under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
