Hillard John Hanks

LAKE ARTHUR   

Hillard John Hanks, 74, died in his residence at 4:29 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2018 in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Rev. Roland Vaughn officiating.

Burial will be in the Andrus Cove Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Lake Arthur.

Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday; and 8:00 a.m. Friday until time of services.

A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel.

He lived his life as a resident of Lake Arthur.  He provided for his family as a supervisor for Crain Brothers for 21 years.  Even though he was not a man to show affection, there was no doubt that he loved his family, friends, and community.  Family was everything to him. He demonstrated this at every opportunity through his actions of cooking, joking, and always being there.  His greatest gift to his legacy was his spirit of determination, drive and endurance. He lived life and faced death his way on his terms.  This was accomplished through the priceless gift of hospice.  We are forever grateful to the Heart of Hospice service provided by Linzy Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Agnes Hanks; one sister, Evelyn Scoper; two nieces, Belinda Scoper and Amy Jo Loughin; and one daughter Lisa Dawn Hanks.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Virgie Leblanc Hanks.  He has four surviving children, son Brian Hanks and wife Shannon, son Terry Hanks and wife Jenny, son T-Boy Hanks and wife Tabby, daughter Tina Hanks Thompson and husband Pete.  He also is survived by 19 grandchildren and 5 ½ great-grandchildren; one brother Leroy Hanks and one sister, Mary Joyce.

Pallbearers are Johnathon Guillory, Richard Benoit, Scottie Hanks, Andrew Bertrand, Bradlee Hanks, Kyzer LeJeune.  Honorary pallbearers are Mason Hanks, Kooper LeJeune and Tristan Thompson.
